Peter A. Umoff obtained his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Texas. He started his legal career in Los Angeles and has practiced in Santa Barbara since 1984. He was a partner in one of the largest law firms in Santa Barbara before becoming in-house counsel and Executive Vice President of one Santa Barbara’s largest employers. Mr. Umoff joined Seed Mackall as a partner in 1992 to create and manage the firm’s litigation department, of which he is still chairman.
Mr. Umoff has extensive experience in business and real estate litigation and transactional work and has represented a wide variety of individuals and businesses in various fields, including telecommunications, development and construction, restaurant and resort development and management, real estate acquisition, ownership and sale, equipment leasing, and banking and trust services. He has been involved in hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of real estate acquisitions, sales and leases, representing sellers, buyers, lessors and lessees. Mr. Umoff not only provides litigation and transactional services to the firm’s clients, he serves as business advisor to a large number of clients who rely on his business background and acumen as well as his litigation experience to help them avoid litigation or enhance their litigation position through pre-litigation planning. Mr. Umoff also heads up the firm’s employment practice area where he again brings both his business and his litigation experience and skills to bear for the benefit of the firm’s clients, with the primary objective being to help them avoid expensive and time-consuming litigation.
